Western Australia’s Pilbara Regiment celebrated the consecration and presentation of new Regimental Colours last weekend.

Western Australia’s Pilbara Regiment recently celebrated the presentation and consecration of new Regimental Colours, acknowledging the Regiment’s long history in keeping Australia safe with the unit’s unique detection activities in the country's north-west.
The Pilbara regiment was established as a Regional Force Surveillance Unit for the Australian Army, specialising in the collection of critical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data in Western Australia’s vast north-west region.
The Pilbara Regiment’s Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Damien Geary explained that the Regiment recruits local knowledge from the region’s diverse communities.
“The Pilbara Regiment recruits its part-time soldiers from communities throughout the north of Western Australia,” LTCOL Geary said.
“We operate across more than 1.3 million square kilometres of some of the harshest and most remote areas of the country.”
The momentous occasion was attended by Governor of Western Australia Kim Beazley as well as the Commander of the Regional Force Surveillance Group Colonel Tim Rutherford, and previous and current serving members of the Pilbara Regiment and the Pilbara Regiment Association.
The Regiment is also hosting an Open Day at the Unit’s Taylor Barracks and are hosting the Pilbara Regiment Ball.
The presentation comes shortly after the re-raising of the 10th Light Horse in Western Australia.
The 10th Light Horse Regiment, which was famed for an array of Battle Honours during the First World War, was re-raised in a historic ceremony in Perth in early October.
The ceremony was held 107 years after the outbreak of fighting in the First World War, which saw members of the Regiment honoured with a Victoria Cross and three Distinguished Service Orders.
Throughout the war, the Regiment saw combat across the near and Middle East, including Gallipoli, Beersheba and Damascus.
Assistant Minister for Defence Andrew Hastie outlined that the modern 10th Light Horse will be re-raised with new cutting-edge capabilities to ensure the defence of Australia’s west coast.
