South Australian-based Defence Coating Systems (DCS) has confirmed that the company has inked a contract with Kongsberg to paint the NASAMS Mk 2 canister launchers, following an investment valued at almost half a million dollars to enhance their Wingfield factory.

South Australian-based DCS has announced that the company has invested almost half a million dollars into their Wingfield factory, enabling the company to scale their offerings for the defence manufacturing sector.
The announcement came as DCS revealed that the company had inked a contract with Kongsberg to paint the NASAMS Mk 2 canister launchers.
According to the company, the recent investment will enable DCS to undertake large format projects within its 70 square meter on-site purpose-built and highly specialised spray booth – enabling the company to address the growing requirements of next-generation defence projects.
Already, the company has a deep history in specialised coating for defence equipment, having completed contracts to coat air warfare destroyers over six years.
“With defence representing a significant percentage of our business and growing, the new on-site facility provides a unique opportunity for capability development and positions DCS as a significant force within defence manufacturing supply chains,” Lou Surace, general manager of DCS, said.
“The defence industry moves rapidly which is why it is vital to evolve business and infrastructure to effectively deliver new innovations that meet the advanced requirements of projects right across the country.”
DCS outlined that the recent investment allowed the company to enter into a major contract with Kongsberg for the NASAMS Mk 2 canister launchers.
Under the contract, DCS is expected the paint the canisters before being delivered to prime contractor Raytheon Australia and then to the Australian Army under LAND19 Ph 7B.
The partnership between DCS and Kongsberg is scheduled to continue for the next 12 months.

The new facility has enhanced the offering of the Rowlands Group, which was acquired by DCS in late 2021.
“DCS is an incredible force within the specialised coating sector and represents a fantastic synergy with Rowlands Metalworks. We look forward to the further expansion of DCS’ capabilities in defence and are very excited to be working with Kongsberg Defence Australia on the current project,” Cameron Johnston, managing director of Rowlands Metalworks, said.
