Serco will act as the prime contractor and Lockheed Martin as the main subcontractor to maintain air defence radars and provide the day-to-day operation of remote radar heads for the next five years.
Serco UK defence business managing director Brizlee Wood said the contract covers five radar sites at Northumberland, Saxa Vord in the Shetland Isles, Buchan in Eastern Scotland, Benbecula in Western Scotland, and Neatishead in Norfolk.
“Serco has a long and proud history of supporting radars in the UK, and we are delighted to have been awarded this new contract to ensure the availability and readiness of this element of the United Kingdom’s critical national infrastructure.”
The contract also covers a personnel replacement program for the Royal Air Force and employs over 30 people.
Serco recently delivered three new TPS-77 Air Defence radars to the UK Ministry of Defence and has been providing support as a subcontractor to Lockheed Martin for United Kingdom Air Defence systems since 2005.
