The contract will expand the US Army’s fleet of launchers and fulfil international orders from the company’s Precision Fires Center of Excellence in Arkansas, according to a Lockheed Martin statement made on 28 April.
The award follows prior contracts last year to ramp production capacity for the C-130 transportable lightweight mobile launcher.
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control tactical missiles vice-president Paula Hartley said the company has taken steps to shorten manufacturing lead time to meet increased demand.
“The increased demand for our Precision Fires products, like HIMARS and GMLRS, demonstrates the significant impact these game-changing capabilities are having for our customers,” she said.
“We are proud to partner with the Army as they move forward with unprecedented speed and agility to meet the urgent need and deliver these systems.”
Earlier this month, Lockheed also announced a not-to-exceed US$4.79 billion contract to manufacture two full-rate production lots of GMLRS rockets and associated equipment with the US Army.
The contract engages Lockheed in the production of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System Unitary and Alternative Warhead rockets and integrated logistics support for the US Army and international partners.
Work will be performed at the Lockheed Martin facilities in Arkansas, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Florida in 2026.
