Germany has engaged Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Rheinmetall to build an additional 50 Puma infantry fighting vehicles in a deal worth €1.087 billion.

Projekt System & Management GmbH (PSM), a joint venture of KMW and Rheinmetall, will act as general contractor to the contract issued by Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support.

The agreement will also include spare part packages, special tool sets, and eight MELLS flight-phase simulators. There will also be an option for additional driver training vehicles and the integration of a turret-independent secondary weapon system.

Delivery is scheduled to start in December 2025 and be completed by the start of 2027.

The Puma infantry fighting vehicle is the principal weapons system of the German Army’s mechanised infantry. It can carry a crew of nine and is armed with a 30mm MK30-2/ABM autocannon and 5.56mm or 7.62mm machine guns.

Earlier this year in February, 143 Bundeswehr Puma IFVs were ordered to be modernised under a contract scheduled for completion in 2029. That agreement will include installation of high-resolution day and night capable camera systems, the MELLS multi-role lightweight guided missile, and digital radio equipment.
