British multinational company Serco has provided more than $50,000 in funding for Clontarf Foundation in 2023 as it supports students in Clontarf academies across Australia.

The company has also committed to increasing opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men into various roles across Serco, according to a public statement made on 25 May.

Clontarf Foundation founder and chief executive officer Gerard Neesham said he is delighted to extend the organisation’s work with Serco to create meaningful employment opportunities across the country.

“These apprenticeship and traineeship placements with Serco mean that students involved in our 148 academies across Australia have more opportunities to create a meaningful career,” Neesham said.

“Being able to tell our students there are already employment opportunities waiting for them with Serco is exciting and we hope this will encourage more year 12 enrolments and improve overall performance.”

The Clontarf Foundation was originally established in 2000 and works to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem, and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.

Serco APAC chief executive officer Peter Welling said this partnership aims to provide long-term benefits for individuals and the broader community, in line with Serco’s third Reconciliation Action Plan commitments.

“Through this partnership, we hope to improve school engagement of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, and enable their involvement in higher education, vocational training, and long-term employment,” Welling said.

“We're committed to being a meaningful partner in reconciliation and continuing to support positive outcomes for First Nations communities and peoples throughout Australia.”

The company will also work locally with Clontarf academies in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, and Western Australia to develop an annual program of student interaction and workplace visits, Welling said.
