Thales Australia has selected a US company’s data sharing platform to be implemented on Hawkeis integral computing system (ICS).

Thales Australia has selected a US company’s data sharing platform to be implemented on Hawkeis integral computing system (ICS).

PrismTech announced at DSEI 2017 in London that its Vortex OpenSplice will act as the data sharing platform for the ICS in the next-generation protected mobility vehicle, Hawkei, which is being delivered to the Australian Defence Force.

ICS is a hardware and software computing infrastructure that enables third-party command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems to be easily integrated into the Army's new Protected Mobility Vehicle-Light (PMVL), Hawkei. The infrastructure is based on the UK Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) Defence Standard 23-09 principles.

The vehicles use Object Management Group's Data Distribution Service (DDS) standard as their data communications protocol. PrismTech said its Vortex OpenSplice implementation of DDS will enable high-level communications and interoperability between the vehicles’ advanced onboard systems.

"We are pleased that Thales Australia has selected the capabilities of PrismTech's Vortex OpenSplice on such a sophisticated vehicle," said Hans van’t Hag, Vortex product manager at PrismTech.

"Vortex OpenSplice offers the most-cost effective, proven and reliable solution for data distribution."

Vortex OpenSplice provides device-to-device data sharing in real time and secure delivery of voluminous data.

Paramvir Thind, ICS senior solution architect at Thales Australia, said, "Vortex OpenSplice provides dependable and efficient communications that are essential for the Hawkei fleet.

"Vortex OpenSplice will provide our system with scalable and interoperable real-time data sharing with the required qualities of service."
