The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified US Congress of the potential sale of MLRS upgrades and related equipment on 1 August.
As part of the sale, the Finnish government has requested to buy the M270A2 upgrade for its M270A1 MLRS, including intercom systems, radio communications mounts, machinegun mounts, battle management system vehicle integration kits, spare parts and support equipment.
“The proposed sale will improve Finland’s capability to meet current and future threats and will enhance interoperability with US forces and other allied forces,” the DSCA statement said.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally that is an important force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
Lockheed Martin, Chelton Inc, Leonardo DRS, and Loc Performance Products have been selected as the principal contractors, and the sale will not require the assignment of US government representatives to Finland.
