The Iron Fist APS will be supplied to BAE Systems Hägglunds, which is producing the CV90 platform for an unnamed European customer.
The system is designed to provide rapid and accurate threat detection, identification, and tracking using search-and-track radar and infrared cameras, before launching an explosive charge towards the incoming threat to break it apart or deflect it.
The system provides 360-degree protection from anti-armour threats such as rocket-propelled grenades and kinetic energy tank rounds in open and urban terrain environments.
“Recent conflicts have shown that armoured fighting vehicles and tanks face an increased danger to forces on the battlefield,” said Elbit Systems Land general manager Yehuda “Udi” Vered.
“The Iron Fist has been proven to be effective against a range of threats including kinetic energy rounds and drones, neutralising them far from troops inside combat fighting vehicles.”
