Silentium has also established US entity to provide responsive customer engagement and capitalise on recent momentum across defence, national security, and intelligence sectors, according to a statement made on 13 October by the civil defence company based in Gepps Cross, South Australia.
Maverick M8 passive radar is designed as a lightweight, ruggedised, soldier portable system for land tactical surveillance. It can be utilised across counter-uncrewed aircraft system surveillance, force protection as well as integrated air and missile defence operations.
The passive radar is a complimentary technology to active radar systems. It provides the same information picture to detect and track objects in an environment but does not emit a signal. It can be an advantage in military defence situation where the system is utilised completely covert in operation and doesn’t highlight the user’s presence, increasing situational awareness and survivability.
“This is an exciting moment, not just for Silentium, but for Australia’s Defence export industry,” according to Silentium Defence chief executive officer Dr James Palmer.
“To see uniquely Australian-developed capability in the hands of US customers is proof we can build true sovereign advantage locally, for global export and application.”
The Maverick M8 has been well received in both US and United Kingdom test and evaluation activities, Dr Palmer said.
Silentium Defence was founded in late 2016 and has grown to more than 60 full and part-time employees across three facilities in Adelaide, South Australia, and multiple states.
Silentium Defence co-founder and CXO Simon Palumbo said Silentium Defence is the only company in the world delivering passive radar at commercial scale for surveillance of sea, air, land, and space.
“Our team recently demonstrated our Maverick passive radar systems to potential end users at this year’s Exercise Trident Spectre in the United States,” Palumbo said.
“Off the back of strong interest at DSEI in London, we are now heading to AUSA in Washington to demonstrate the advantage our Maverick M8 delivers in tactical surveillance scenarios.
“To have achieved this level of engagement with our systems, from the soldier portable variant right up to the Maverick S-series for surveillance of space in just over six years since we established Silentium, is proof of both solid product-market fit and confidence in Australian capability development.”
