EOS showcases capability at US Army’s Project Convergence Capstone 4

EOS Defense Systems USA, the American subsidiary of ASX-listed defence and technology provider EOS, showcased its R600 Remote Weapon Station against uncrewed aerial vehicles.

During the technology demonstration, the Remote Weapon Station (RWS) successfully shot down Class 1 UAVs at ranges of over 300 metres in addition to engaging with multiple ground targets.

The defence technology provider explained that the project trialled capabilities under controlled conditions, with the capability able to engage targets up to 800 metres with a 7.62mm machine gun and out to 1,200 metres with a 30x113mm cannon.

The R600 RWS is equipped with a Northrop Grumman M230LF cannon, coaxial machine gun, and four Javelin missiles mounted on an Army Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport robotic infantry support vehicle, the company detailed.

The US Army’s Project Convergence Capstone 4 is a multination two-phase experiment, held between Camp Pendleton and the US Army’s National Training Centre in Fort Irwin, both in California.

According to the US Army, participants included Army, the US Navy, US Air Force, US Marine Corps, US Space Force, and militaries from the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, and Japan.

“PC-C4 is a culmination of numerous preceding exercises, experimentations, and events; it provides a critical venue to identify and refine recommendations necessary to transform the Army and ensure future war-winning readiness,” the US Army outlined.

The event was designed to help senior leaders from Army determine those technologies needed to deliver success on the future battlefield, including leveraging human-machine integration.

ASX-listed EOS outlined that the R600 provides a critical capability to allied defence forces.

“The R600 provides both light- and medium-calibre firepower and the added lethality of multiple anti-tank or anti-air missiles, offering a major differentiating capability and addressing a critical need of US and allied forces,” a statement from EOS read.

“As human-machine integration continues to be a key strategic priority, the demonstration was an important opportunity to evaluate unmanned and remote solutions which provide essential protections to the warfighter.

“EOS’ unique and ultra-precise RWS, paired with a proven, multi-functional robotic vehicle, is a viable and cost-effective solution that can address strategic Army priorities in the C-UAS domain and increased lethality for light forces.”
