The Israeli military technology company has announced it has secured a US$37 million initial contract to supply the systems to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems over a 24-month period, according to a statement released on 5 May this year.
The Iron Fist uses an advanced hard kill system to enhance the self-defence capabilities of armoured platforms against modern battlefield threats.
The system reportedly detects incoming threats by using an advanced radar sensor and passive infrared detector before launching an explosive projective interceptor into the threat, thus destroying or deflecting the threat away from the vehicle.
“Our Iron Fist Active Protection Systems represent the highest level of innovation, offering comprehensive protection against evolving threats on the modern battlefield,” Elbit Systems Land general manager Yehuda Vered said.
“Through this strategic collaboration with GD-OTS, we are honoured to contribute to the enhancement of the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, further empowering the US armed forces with enhanced capabilities to fulfil their missions effectively and safely.”
According to the company, the Israel Defense Forces’ Second-Generation APS is characterised by high performance and low volume, weight and power requirements. The system provides armoured platforms with 360-degree protection from a wide variety of anti-armour threats, such as Anti-Tank Rockets (ATR), Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), UAS and loitering threats, in both open terrain and complex urban environments.
