The prototype was debuted at the Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD 2024) exhibition in Millbrook, Bedfordshire, United Kingdom on 18 September.
The new variant is part of the development of the British Army’s Armoured Mortar Variant and includes a Patria NEMO 120mm turreted mortar system integrated onto Boxer highly mobile and protected platform.
“We are excited to present this innovative armoured mortar variant at the DVD 2024 exhibition,” Rheinmetall Vehicle Systems International deputy CEO Rebecca Richards said.
“This collaboration with Patria underscores our shared commitment to advancing military technology and providing the UK’s armed forces with the best possible equipment.”
The 120mm turreted mortar system can reportedly achieve a maximum rate of fire of 10 rounds per minute for sustained firepower in combat situations and attain a range of up to 10 kilometres.
The vehicle will also have “fire on the move” capability to reduce the risk of counter-battery fire, as well as performing both direct and indirect fire roles.
The systems can also reportedly deliver “multiple rounds simultaneous impact” to deliver up to five rounds to hit a target simultaneously, which can also be coordinated between multiple platforms to further increase firepower.
“The armoured mortar variant represents a significant leap forward in superior battlefield capabilities,” Patria senior vice-president, market area Europe, Hugo Vanbockryck said.
“We are proud to partner with Rheinmetall in delivering this state-of-the-art solution to our customers.”
