Barrett secures US$14.9m US Army contract

Australian-owned Barret Firearms Manufacturing has been awarded a US$14.99 million (AU$23.49 million) contract by the US Army to provide the M107 Rifle System and variant systems, such as the Model 82A1 and M107A1.

This new US$14.99 million (AU$23.49 million) contract is latest for NIOA-owned Barrett Firearms Manufacturing and includes accessories, spare parts and training support, will be delivered through late 2029.

Barrett Vice President of Business Development and Sales Ryan Krantz said the latest contract ensured the continued supply of the M107 Rifle System and its variants to support US Army missions worldwide, saying, "This contract reaffirms the trust that the US Army has placed in the M107 Rifle System and Barrett’s commitment to excellence."

The M107 marks the latest evolution of the company's large calibre firearms and incorporates state of the art design, manufacturing, and materials, every component of the rifle has been engineered to be lighter and stronger than its predecessors.

To make use easier, the M107 leverages a nearly 2 kilogram weight reduction, the M107A1 is optimised for use with a sound suppressor, providing a much-needed signature reduction capability to the warfighter. The Barrett M107 has been an integral part of the US Armed Forces’ long-range arsenal for more than two decades, delivering unmatched firepower, accuracy, and reliability in the field.

Krantz added, "We are honored to continue providing our troops with a superior platform that has stood the test of time in both performance and reliability."

Meanwhile, the M107's predecessor, the M82 is the world's first shoulder fired semi-automatic 50 BMG rifle, the Model 82A1 has had a long history in service with the US Armed Forces and allied partners, including the Australian Defence Force, with the M82A2 variant currently in service with the Australian Defence Force slated to be phased out and replaced by the M107A1.

Australia's acquisition of the M107A1 was announced as part of the AU$500 million LAND 159 Tranche 1 program to provide Australia’s soldiers, sailors and aviators with enhanced lethality small arms and individual weapon systems.
