One of the defence primes in the running to secure the $5 billion LAND 400 Phase 2 contract has launched a recruitment drive for Australian engineers.

Rheinmetall Defence Australia is looking for Australian engineers interested in working in Germany for its parent company, Rheinmetall Group. Rheinmetall's operational activities are split in two divisions, defence and automotive.
The German company is looking for mechanical, mechatronics/robotics, industrial, systems, aerospace, electrical/computer systems and software engineers to join the company at its offices in Kiel, Kassel and Unterluss.
Executives from Rheinmetall Defence Australia recently held information sessions for engineering graduates at universities in NSW, Victoria and South Australia to highlight the opportunities available in the company’s defence division in Germany .
Rheinmetall Defence Australia managing director Gary Stewart said the company had received strong interest during the university employer information sessions and was now looking to widen its search.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for engineers with the required expertise to join a company that is expanding rapidly around the world," Stewart said.
"Australian engineers are already playing a key role in a number of major Rheinmetall programs in Europe, Asia and Australia, working locally and from our operations in Germany."
Rheinmetall said any engineers recruited as a result of this campaign will be working on a range of new projects and innovating to meet the demands of customers across Europe now building sovereign military vehicle capabilities around Rheinmetall proprietary technology.
Rheinmetall Defence Australia has put forward its Boxer CRV for the LAND 400 Phase 2 project and says it will build the vehicles in Queensland if it wins. BAE Systems Australia is offering the Patria AMV35 and will construct the vehicles in Victoria if successful in winning the project.
