Three junior officers from the Australian Defence Force Academy are being hosted by NIOA for work experience.

Officer Cadet Helen Lee (RAAF), Sub Lieutenant Michael Hague (RAN) and Pilot Officer Ryan Wood (RAAF) are working at NIOA for six weeks during their summer break to gain relevant experience in their chosen fields of engineering, before heading back to Canberra to complete their final year of studies.
The three junior officers are working on tasks related to the engineering documentation requirements for LAND 17-1C.2, a $100 million contract awarded last week, as well as the enhancement of NIOA’s engineering and configuration management systems.
PLTOFF Wood said the work experience is a "great opportunity for me to better understand industries’ role in the delivery and support of new capability".
"It is exciting to be able to work on tasks that have a direct impact on supporting our troops with better capability," he said.
Patrick Whitty, general manager of government business at NIOA, said offering work experience is key to developing relationships between Defence and industry.
"We are fortunate to be hosting OFFCDT Lee, SBLT Hague and PLTOFF Wood at NIOA this year. We are able to offer them highly relevant work experience and they are making a positive contribution to our company. It is important that the defence and industry links be established early and strongly, so that our future officers appreciate the role we play in capability delivery."
NIOA secured a five-year, $95 million supply munitions contract in November last year. Under that contract, NIOA will supply more than 30 different munitions, including small arms and 120mm M1A1 Abrams tank ammunition. NIOA will source the munitions from their internal partners: Rheinmetall Waffe Munitions, Orbital ATK and Vista Outdoors.
The five-year contract also includes an option to extend to 15 years.
The company was also recently selected as the prime vendor to supply recoil operated semi-automatic Barrett M107A1's and MRAD weapon systems to the New Zealand Defence Force. NIOA has also established a new expanded team to support the growth of its defence and government business sector.
