The Australian Army has shown off the latest capability developments during a land trial exercise in Townsville over the last month, highlighting some of the key land warfare capabilities coming to the Army.

The Land Trial involved over 200 people from Army’s 3rd Brigade, 6th Brigade and 17th Brigade, Defence Science and Technology, Defence Industry Division and the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).
Major General Kath Toohey, AM CSC, Head of Land Capability, explained that the trial demonstrated the modernisation of the Army and key technologies.
"This is an exciting time for the Army as it transitions from testing and evaluating individual pieces of equipment to testing and evaluating its capabilities as part of a complete system," MAJGEN Toohey said.
During the trial, further testing was conducted through a range of combat team scenarios with some of Army’s newest capabilities, including the Protected Mobility Vehicle, Light Hawkei and Bushmaster.
MAJGEN Toohey said soldiers had the opportunity to test and provide feedback on these capabilities as well as the Soldier Combat Ensemble, enhanced Night Fighting Equipment and the Black Hornet 3 Nano unmanned aerial system and battle management system.
"This trial is an important final step to ensure some of the Army’s latest capabilities are ready for introduction to units," MAJGEN Toohey said.
Supporting the development and roll out of future land warfare capabilities and systems, is the the Land Systems Division (LSD) of CASG. LSD is responsible to the Service Chiefs and Vice Chief of the Defence Force for delivery of a diverse range of capabilities to support 'raise, train and sustain' requirements and operational deployments. LSD supported systems including:
- Combat support vehicles and systems;
- Field vehicles;
- Commercial vehicles;
- Small arms;
- Direct fire weapons support;
- Surveillance systems;
- Engineering and workshop equipment;
- Deployable health systems;
- Pharmaceuticals;
- Soldier combat and personal equipment; and
- ADF clothing and combat rations.
The division consists of Integrated Soldier Systems Branch, Land Manoeuvre Systems Branch, Land Vehicle Systems Branch, the Combined Arms Fighting Systems Program, the Land Engineering Agency, the Commodity Reform Program and a corporate headquarters.
