The Chief of the Defence Force, General Angus Campbell AO, DSC welcomed the Australian Defence Force Academy’s incoming class of trainee officers on Saturday’s Chief of Defence Force Parade.

The parade marks the acceptance of 353 first year trainee officers to the Navy, Army and Air Force as midshipmen and officer cadets, having completed their initial military training.

The class of 2023 began their academic studies on Monday at UNSW Canberra, and will continue their ongoing military training.

“Over the past five weeks, the trainee officers have been introduced to life in the Australian Defence Force, which has included activities such as leadership and ethics education, weapons handling, physical training and drill,” GEN Campbell said.

“This unique combination of university education and military training prepares ADFA trainee officers intellectually, ethically and physically for their future roles as leaders in the Australian Defence Force.

“ADFA is just the first step in a fantastic career in the Australian Defence Force for this year’s incoming class of trainee officers, and I will be following the progress of the trainee officers with interest.”
