Rheinmetall has unveiled the new generation of the HX tactical heavy vehicle family, the HX3.

German-based Rheinmetall has unveiled the company’s new generation of tactical heavy vehicles this week. According to a release by the company, the HX3, which is part of Rheinmetall’s HX vehicle family, integrates enhanced mobility and comfort, a digitised interface as well as improved performance on the previous generation of HX2 heavy vehicles, with the option of several additional integrations.
Like previous generations of the HX vehicles, the HX3 will be an off-the-shelf product, enabling militaries to immediately integrate the system into their daily operations. Rheinmetall has confirmed that the vehicle will be available in 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and 10x10 options.
In addition to the new integrations such as the Automated Load Handling System (ALHS) and the Universal Torsion-Resistant Subframe (UTRS), the vehicle is built to support a wider range of activities, including emerging truck-based artillery and radar systems.
Additionally, the HX3 is expected to come with the options to upgrade the rear axle suspension in order to support enhanced off roading capabilities, reinforce armour for vehicle protection, as well as integrating Rheinmetall’s Rapid Obscuring System (ROSY) and Active Defence System (ADS).
“Due to a systematically applied identical components concept and extensive functional commonality between different models, administering and operating the fleet of vehicles becomes simpler and more efficient,” the Rheinmetall release noted.
“The global presence of RMMV vehicles brings major advantages when it comes to interoperability and logistics, especially during multinational operations. Among others, the circle of international HX user nations now includes Germany, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and Austria. Norway and Sweden have also placed substantial truck orders with Rheinmetall.”
