Australian business Bisalloy Steels has received its first order from Rheinmetall as part of the LAND 400 Phase 2 program, which will see the company provide steel as part of the Australian Army’s new Boxer 8x8 combat reconnaissance vehicle (CRV).

Over its 40-year history, Bisalloy Steels has worked on a plethora of critical Australian Defence Force programs including operating on the hulls of the Royal Australian Navy’s frigates as well as working on the Collins Class submarine, the Hawkei and even the Bushmaster. The company is listed on the ASX and has undertaken international engagements across the US, Europe and Asia.
Last year, Bisalloy Steels passed German government testing procedures following two years of examination. The certification enabled Bisalloy to join Rheinmetall’s global supply chain.
The two companies began their partnership in 2017 and have subsequently strengthened their offering having undergone stringent research and development and information sharing.
Gary Stewart, managing director of Rheinmetall Defence Australia, welcomed the opportunity for the two companies to leverage one another’s competitive advantages.
“I am impressed by Bisalloy Steels’ people, capability and their outstanding product. I am grateful for Bisalloy’s hard work to achieve this significant outcome,” Stewart said.
Glenn Cooper, chief executive and managing director of Bisalloy, noted that the announcement was a huge achievement for the company.
“This is an important milestone for Bisalloy as a supplier to Rheinmetall, and as a supplier to the LAND 400 Phase 2 program,” Cooper said.

Justin Suwart, business manager – armour and protection at Bisalloy, outlined that despite the challenges, Bisalloy remains excited to partner with Rheinmetall.
“I remember the day we started on this collaboration, over four years ago, and while there have been many challenges during this time, Bisalloy has remained committed to supporting the LAND 400 Phase 2 program and working with Rheinmetall to support the ADF,” Suwart said.
