The German defence company has launched a modified variant of its armoured transport vehicle.

Rheinmetall has unveiled a new high-roof version of the 6x6 Fuchs/Fox wheeled armoured transport vehicle, designed to serve in a number of roles, including as a tactical operations centre and an armoured field ambulance.

The variant’s interior volume measures 12 cubic metres, with headroom increased to 1.60 metres from the previous 1.26 metres.

The armoured field ambulance version of the new high-roofed Fuchs/Fox is built to carry four wounded personnel, two lying down and two seated.

The vehicle is also equipped with an advanced 360-degree panoramic vision system, featuring a fusion daytime/night-time capability, modelled on the system used in the Puma infantry fighting vehicle – tipped to improve the crew’s situational awareness.

Other features include:

  • virtual reality goggles to enable the crew to observe surroundings;
  • communications services which enable interaction with dismounted personnel;
  • a more powerful engine;
  • a new transfer case;
  • a new brake system; and
  • a digital electrical system.

All these things improve the vehicle’s off-road performance and make it easier to operate.

The vehicle was developed at the Rheinmetall Landsysteme in Kassel in the German state of Hesse.
