Experts from Varley Rafael Australia (VRA) and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems recently conducted a review of potential Australian suppliers to advance their sovereign guided missile capabilities and assist production of the SPIKE LR2 Anti-Tank Guided Missile system.

Throughout the review, VRA and expert representatives from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems conducted series of business visits to enhance their knowledge of Australian industrial capability, while engaging with potential local guided munitions suppliers.
The fact-finding mission included a visit to Thales’ Advanced Ordnance manufacturing facility, where the representatives from VRA and Rafael assessed prospective sovereign warhead and rocket motor development capabilities, as well as evaluating opportunities for VRA’s Missile Hot Integration site.
The delegation also visited Extel Technologies, Australian Precision Technologies (APT), Hosico Engineering Group (HEG), Cablex in addition to Thales Australia (Australian Munitions) to observe their domestic manufacturing capacity.
A spokesperson for the company expressed their thanks to the companies for hosting the VRA and Rafael representatives.
According to the company, the Commonwealth has already chosen the SPIKE weapons system as part of the LAND 400 Phase 2 and 3, as well as the LAND 159 projects, with VRA currently undertaking the SPIKE Technical Certification alongside the Commonwealth government.
