Indo-Pacific Endeavour returns to South-East Asia and the north-east Indian Ocean from September to November this year.

The Indo-Pacific Endeavour (IPE) is one of Australia’s key regional engagement activities. This year, IPE 2022 will see engagements in 14 countries, which will include the Maldives, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia this iteration.
These engagements are supported by an Australian Defence Force Maritime Task Unit of Royal Australian Navy ships and embarked Army members as well as Royal Australian Air Force air mobility aircraft for fly-in-fly-out engagements, marking a total composition of 1,800 personnel, five ships and 11 helicopters. IPE22 is running from 26 September and returning to Australia by mid-December.
As IPE22 Commander, Royal Australian Navy Commodore Mal Wise AM noted that he has been incredibly fortunate to continue a second year as Commander of Indo-Pacific Endeavour.
“IPE21 achieved positive results through contactless, virtual engagements with key government and military leaders, proving that Australia and our partners can continue to strengthen our relationships no matter the challenges.
“IPE22 will take place in a more regular and open environment that will allow participants to take part in visits ashore, guests to be welcomed on board our ships, and collaborative activities between our militaries, government agencies and friends.
“After fulfilling and successful engagements in 2021, I’m excited about strengthening existing partnerships and laying the foundations for 2023 and beyond,” CDRE Wise said.
Australia is committed to making effective contributions to humanitarian and security efforts in the region, with IPE22 aimed at promoting security and stability in the nation’s nearby region through bilateral and multilateral engagement, training and capacity building.
IPE began in 2017 as an annual activity coordinated by the Australian Defence Force to deliver on the promise of the 2016 Defence white paper to strengthen Australia’s engagement and partnerships with regional security forces.
The official launch and departure of the IPE22 Maritime Task Group aboard HMA Ships Adelaide and Anzac will be taking place on Thursday, 13 October, at 2pm from Fort Hill Wharf in Darwin.
