The US Navy has signed a US$30.9 million (AU$47 million) cost-plus-incentive-fee and cost-plus-fixed-fee contract with General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Progeny Systems for submarine sonar subsystems.

The US Navy has signed a US$30.9 million (AU$47 million) cost-plus-incentive-fee and cost-plus-fixed-fee contract with General Dynamics Mission Systems’ Progeny Systems for submarine sonar subsystems.

This contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of this contract to US$82.8 million (AU$126.04 million) and will deliver engineering design, development and supporting procurement for the US Navy’s submarine sonar subsystems expected to be completed by July 2026.

Laura Hooks, vice-president and general manager of Maritime and Strategic Systems at General Dynamics Mission Systems, welcomed this contract announcement saying, “We look forward to continuing to provide the US Navy’s submarine force with relevant, innovative solutions. Progeny Systems’ impressive efforts on this contract will deliver some of the most current and capable sonar subsystems so our Navy can execute their critical missions while keeping our submarine crews safe.”

The contract was signed through the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). NAVSEA is comprised of command staff, headquarters directorates, affiliated Program Executive Offices (PEOs) and numerous field activities.

Progeny Systems capabilities include specialised software and hardware solutions for acoustics, cyber security, weapon launch and control systems, surveillance, and complex multi-tiered architectures for the USS Department of Defense (DOD) and other organisations.

NAVSEA, the largest of the Navy’s six system commands, with a fiscal year budget of approximately US$36 billion (AU$54.8 billion), accounts for nearly one quarter of the Navy’s entire budget, with a force of in excess of 86,000 civilian and military personnel. NAVSEA engineers builds, buys and maintains the Navy’s ships and submarines and their combat systems.

General Dynamics Mission Systems provides mission-critical solutions for defence, intelligence, and cyber security customers across all domains. Headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, General Dynamics Mission Systems employs approximately 12,500 people worldwide.
