SEA 5000 bidder Fincantieri is continuing to spruik the benefits of its offerings for Australian industry, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with local Melbourne business, Titomic.

Under the MoU, which is Titomic’s first for the marine sector and will take immediate effect for the next 12 months, Titomic will work with Fincantieri to evaluate the potential for the company’s additive manufacturing process, Titomic Kinetic Fusion, to be used in Fincantieri’s manufacturing activities.
Titomic's Kinetic Fusion can overcome limitations of previous additive manufacturing for metals to manufacture complex parts without shape or size constraints. Titomic offers design and manufacturing methods to enable speed-to-market, superior products at lower production costs and using less resources for a more sustainable future.
Titomic additive manufacturing machines can customise build size to customer requirements and offer additive manufacturing advantages at industrial scale. Multiple robots can be utilised to build larger parts, competing with traditional manufacturing solutions for industries such as aerospace and defence, sporting goods, medical, automotive, industrial equipment, construction and marine. The technology can also join dissimilar metals and composites for engineered properties in a structure, deliver stronger structures without welding, folding or bending and offers reduced time to market.
The MoU between the two companies is part of Fincantieri's efforts to improve existing manufacturing processes in the very traditional and cost-orientated industry, said Fincantieri chairman Dario Deste.

Titomic CEO Jeff Lang said the agreement is a landmark for the Melbourne business.
"This agreement with Fincantieri marks a significant milestone for future shipbuilding and industrial scale additive manufacturing," said Lang.
"Titomic’s signing with Fincantieri to evaluate our Titomic Kinetic Fusion process will not only add value to existing manufacturing and repair activities, it will lead to the creation of next generation high-tech vessels."
The initial R&D phase of the MoU will take place at Titomic’s Melbourne facility.
Fincantieri, one of the world's largest shipbuilding groups, has offered its FREMM frigate for the Future Frigates SEA 5000 program. It us up against BAE Systems and Navantia.
