Open to Australians aged 18 to 35, the competition requires entrants to explain in 50 words or less, which submariner role (Maritime Warfare Officer Submariner, Acoustic Analyst Submariner, Electronic Engineer Submariner and Marine Technician Submariner) they would choose and why.
Minister for Defence Personnel Darren Chester said, "The Navy is looking for people with the right combination of intelligence, resilience, discipline and teamwork to fill these roles."
Eight lucky winners, one from each state and territory, will take part in a three-day, two-night trip to Australia’s largest naval base, HMAS Stirling at Garden Island, Western Australia. Here they will experience life as a submariner and take part in a range of exclusive activities
"The National Submariner Tour and Competition is a great first step towards a future career in the Royal Australian Navy, and their extraordinary submarine service," Minister Chester explained.
"Being a submariner in the Royal Australian Navy is a career which redefines comfort zones and shows someone what they’re truly capable of."
The winners will receive return flights to Perth, two nights’ accommodation, food and travel costs, and the chance to take part in a range of exclusive activities.
This may include a VIP tour of the military facilities at HMAS Stirling, a chance to tackle challenging obstacle courses, and exclusive one-on-one time with current serving submariners to learn more about their lives in the Royal Australian Navy.
Entries for the National Submariner Tour and Competition are now open and close 14 December 2018. Winners will be contacted in January 2019. If you or someone you know would be interested in a career as a submariner, more information is available here.
