The Anzac Class frigate has left the Port of Darwin for east Asia, where it will conduct logistics visits over a six-week deployment.

HMAS Arunta departed the Port of Darwin on Sunday (11 October) after an 11-day logistical visit to the Top End.

“Deployments such as this serve as a demonstration of Australia’s ongoing commitment to the region,” Commanding Officer HMAS Arunta, Commander Troy Duggan, said.

“They also allow us to develop our interoperability and cohesiveness with partner nations.”

HMAS Arunta recently returned to Australia from a three-month deployment across south-east Asia and the Pacific as part of the Navy Task Group.

Joined by HMA Ships CanberraStuartHobart and Sirius, Arunta engaged in exercises with 11 regional partners, including Brunei, Canada, France, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Republic of Singapore, and the US.

The ships participated in the Regional Presence Deployment, which incorporated the Rim of the Pacific Exercise off Hawaii in August.

CMDR Duggan said HMAS Arunta’s company had “performed admirably” since leaving their home port of Fleet Base West in mid-June.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the job my crew has done and they have achieved everything, and more, that has been asked of them,” CMDR Duggan added.

Upon completion of its six-week deployment in east Asia, Arunta will return to Western Australia, where the crew will be granted leave.
