Sydney based SME Owen International has partnered with UK manufacturer Chess Dynamics to support the local development of fire control electro optical systems.

Owen International has announced the signing of a partnership agreement with Chess Dynamics, and the establishment of an Australian supply and support facility for the company’s advanced sensor systems.
The agreement involves the transfer of IP and training of Australian personnel to commission, repair and upgrade sensor systems for the continued development of domestic support capabilities for Chess’ Sea Eagle family of fire control electro optical (FCEO) systems.
The agreement builds on a four-year relationship between Owen International and Chess Dynamics, centred on the provision of advanced electro optical systems upgrades for Royal Australian Navy ship classes, including the Type 26 for the Hunter Class program.
Owen International has leveraged the Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Grant, awarded to the SME in May, to establish a regional capability to facilitate the maintenance, repair and overhaul tasks on Electro-Optical Gun Fire Control Systems from Chess Dynamics, and Visual Landing Aid systems.

“The partnership will also enable us to meet the future needs of the Australian Navy, support Australian industrial capability, and boost the defence SME sector and its supply chains.”
About the FCEO
The Sea Eagle Fire Control Electro Optical system has been integrated with a wide range of naval combat management systems and varying calibre guns, ranging from 30mm to 127mm.
Key features of the FCEO include 24-hour target identification by long range TI and DLTV, automatic slewing and target acquisition, and 24-hour passive surveillance.
