EOS subsidiary EM Solutions has delivered its last Cobra terminal for use onboard the Anzac Class frigates in the Royal Australian Navy, with the terminals also in use across the Cape, Supply and upcoming Arafura Class ships.
The eighth and final Cobra system was tested in the presence of the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, AO, and Dr Rowan Gilmore, chief executive of EM Solutions. The Cobra supports the ship's crew with increased communications capabilities.
Dr Gilmore commented that the system has proven itself onboard the Anzac Class frigates.
“The shipment of the eighth Cobra X/Ka-band terminal to the Australian Navy for each of its Anzac frigates marks an important milestone for EM Solutions. Since its commercialisation through a Defence innovation grant in 2015, the Cobra has proven itself as an exemplar of a system that results from close collaboration between Navy end users, engineers, and industry. The support of the Navy throughout has been outstanding,” Dr Gilmore commented.
VADM Noonan also inspected the EM Solutions facility, having undergone a recent expansion. It is hoped that the new facility will allow the company to produce a series of two larger satellite communications terminals through the Defence Innovation Hub.
The terminal currently is in use by another five global navies.
