The Tasmania-based company has been tapped to deliver evacuation systems for two Europe-based naval shipbuilding projects.

Liferaft Systems Australia (LSA) has confirmed its receipt of two separate contracts, worth just under $3 million, for the delivery of Marine Evacuation Systems (MES), large capacity life rafts, and associated hardware to two undisclosed European navies.
LSA is expected to design, manufacture and pack the systems from its facility in Hobart, with delivery scheduled from between 2023 and 2025.
“Securing both of these contracts is significant for our company in terms of retaining our valued workforce well into the future,” LSA business manager Mollie Grainger said.
These latest contracts are in addition to existing orders with the Royal Navy and the US Navy.
LSA has been tasked with delivering MES for three Type 26 frigates from between 2024 and 2026, and two expeditionary fast transport (EPF) vessels from between 2022 and 2023.
The US government has also ordered the evacuation systems for ‘special purpose’ vessels, with delivery expected from 2021 to 2023.
“The new contracts, which have a combined value of just under$3 million are important to the ongoing success of Liferaft Systems Australia, adding to our already busy order schedule by supplying MES for the global commercial passenger vessel and mega yacht sectors,” Grainger added.
“LSA is highly respected and recognised worldwide, with over 95 per cent of our business directly exported from Australia.”
The firm employs approximately 65 full-time staff from its purpose-built facility in the Maritime Defence Precinct of Derwent Park, Hobart.
LSA also has a global presence operating out of two locations in Europe and North America.
