The Israel-based defence contractor has been awarded a contract to deliver precision munitions to an Asia-Pacific customer.
Elbit Systems has announced its receipt of a US$220 million (AU$320 million) contract to supply precision guidance kits for airborne munitions to an undisclosed country in the Asia-Pacific.
Specifically, the 15-month contract involves the delivery of the Lizard precision guidance kit for general purpose airborne warheads.
The Lizard is billed as a laser-based precision guidance kit, designed to enable variants of general-purpose airborne warheads to engage targets with high accuracy.
Bezhalel Machlis, Elbit Systems president and CEO, said the contract reflects growing interest in the capability.
“There is an increase in the demand for our precision fire capabilities as high accuracy has become an operational imperative across all domain of operations,” Machlis said.
“Armed forces around the globe are requiring solutions that enable efficient conversion of ammunition stockpiles into a capability that is relevant in modern warfare, especially in light of lessons learned from recent military conflicts.”
This latest deal comes just days after Elbit Systems announced it was awarded a US$70 million (AU$101.7 million) contract to supply an electronic warfare (EW) solution to an international customer.
The company has been tasked with providing ground-based EW and signals intelligence (SIGINT) units equipped with electronic support measures, electronic counter measures as well as command-and-control systems over the next two and a half years.
These units are expected to generate a comprehensive passive air and ground picture, while also providing an electronic order of battle.
This is tipped to enable effective response to both aerial and land-based threats.
