Under the agreement, Rohde & Schwarz will equip the German Navy’s 31 MRF helicopters with the company’s SOVERON airborne radios, with each helicopter fitted with three VHF/UHF transceivers and spares. Each of the radios are embedded with COMSEC.
Currently, the MRF helicopters are in use by the German Navy to undertake close-range protection operations, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions as well as search and rescue taskings.
The radio equipment utilises the same encryption algorithms that are standardised across the NATO militaries and are specially designed for the maritime domain. A spokesperson from the company explained the transceiver’s interfaces enable external devices or external decryption devices to be integrated, while guarding the naval distress frequency.
"We are very proud to have our equipment deployed on this major naval asset of our national customer," said Stefan Pleyer, vice president market segment avionics, Rohde & Schwarz.
"With 8,000+ SOVERON family airborne radios in use worldwide on over 70 different airborne platforms, we ensure that we deliver a safe, future-ready investment for today's navies on time and on budget."
The announcement follows a series of international deals conducted by the company.
Earlier this month, Thailand’s Office of National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced it would expand its R&S ARGUS spectrum monitoring system from Rohde & Schwarz, ordering 26 additional interference hunting vehicles.
According to Rohde & Schwarz, the technical parameters for the vehicles/mobile stations and measurement equipment comply with ITU recommendations and guidelines, supporting both manual measurements and radio frequency direction finding.
Since 2014, the company has supplied the NBTC with seven spectrum monitoring vehicles leveraging R&S ARGUS monitoring system amid advances in communications technology and the increase in radio services.
