The “Mental Wellness Matters” Veterans’ Health Week runs from 8 to 15 October this year and promotes good health and wellbeing in the everyday life of veterans and families.
Eligible organisations can receive $720 in one-off funding to support their “Mental Wellness Matters”-themed event and educational element. Events can be held two weeks before and two weeks after the official dates.
Minister Keogh said mental wellness does matter and it’s also OK to ask for help.
“Veterans’ Health week is an important opportunity for Australians to reflect on the service and sacrifices of veterans and veteran families, and acknowledge that sometimes, this service can take its toll on their health and wellbeing,” he said in a statement released on 4 August.
“This year, Veterans’ Health Week 2023 is focused on ‘Mental Wellness Matters’, encouraging veterans and veteran families to renew their focus on maintaining good mental health and seeking support when it’s needed.
“Australian veterans have led the way in enhancing our understanding of mental health and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“It’s because of the work of our veterans, and organisations like Open Arms, that Australia is leading the way in treating and supporting mental health conditions.”
Applications for VHW funding are now open and close on 8 September this year. A kitbag to support event organisers to plan and deliver their event is available on the Department of Veterans’ Affairs website.
