Australian defence and communications technology company Electro Optic Systems will supply remote weapon systems under a new $25 million contract in Europe.

Australian defence and communications technology company Electro Optic Systems will supply remote weapon systems under a new $25 million contract in Europe.

The contract, in addition to an earlier agreement announced on 13 June, will include the remote weapon systems (RWS), spares, training, and related services to be delivered to the Western European government during 2024.

The RWS being supplied appear to be the R400 remote weapon station capable of fitting calibre weapons between a 7.62mm machine gun and a 30mm cannon. The system has a gimbal mounting and sensor united and has previously been tested to carry automatic grenade launchers or missile launchers such as Javelin munitions.

“In performing this contract, Electro Optic Systems (EOS) will draw upon a support network and supply chain consisting of over 100 suppliers located across Australia, and others internationally,” said a company statement published on 27 December.

“The EOS RWS product portfolio is designed to provide the highest firepower for lowest weight, delivering superior accuracy and reliability compared to competitor systems.

“Over 2,500 units have been sold and are currently in use with several military services in Australia, North America, Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

“The contract is subject to approval by the Australian government.”

Late last year, the company also advised investors that chief executive officer Dr Andreas Schwer had also been appointed to the role of managing director on 12 December.

The company also indicated it had acquired ongoing work last year under an existing multi-year contract with a large customer in the Middle East.

It also confirmed ongoing work by EM Solutions to deliver to customers, including initial ramp-up work under the $202 million SEA 1442-5 contract to supply terminals to the Royal Australian Navy, previously announced on 19 May last year.

“As we announce strong growth in our expected revenue for 2023, we recognise the extraordinary collaborative efforts that have brought us to this point. Throughout the past year, teams from across EOS, encompassing defence, space, KiwiStar, and EM Solutions, have united in delivering exceptional products to our global customers,” said Dr Schwer.

“Looking ahead to 2024, we take pride in knowing that EOS products are among the best in the world.

“Our counter-drone products stand as the most accurate and effective in the market. Our SATCOM terminals are providing world-class connectivity to the Royal Australian Navy and a growing fleet of European customers.

“In the space domain, our expertise in tracking remains unrivalled. The upcoming year will see us focusing on commercialising these products more effectively than ever.

Thank you to the EOS team and our stakeholders for supporting EOS over the last 12 months.”
