Serco Asia Pacific secures new RAN services contract

The company is set to continue delivering in-port services on behalf of the Royal Australian Navy after securing a new long-term deal.

The company is set to continue delivering in-port services on behalf of the Royal Australian Navy after securing a new long-term deal.

Serco Asia Pacific has confirmed its receipt of a $120 million contract to deliver essential marine support services in naval and non-naval ports across Australia under the Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) Program Service Package 1.

The initial six-year contract, scheduled to commence on 1 October, also involves crewing, maintenance and upkeep of asset bases.

Specifically, the work includes general harbour services, security patrols, personnel and stores transfers, Bunker Barge Operation, maintenance support services and training.

The new contract contains provisions for two further five-year extensions, which could take the total length of the deal to 16 years.

Serco Defence managing director Clint Thomas AM, CSC, welcomed the extension of the company’s partnership with the RAN, which dates back to 1997.

“Serco has successfully provided in port services to the Royal Australian Navy across Australia as part of its Fleet Marine Services Contract (FMSC) for the past 24 years and I am delighted that this support will continue,” he said.

“This new contract recognises the strong partnership we have built with Navy over the years and Serco’s delivery of fully integrated defence service solutions.

“We look forward to working alongside the RAN with our supply network and our Australian industry partners into the future.”

Serco Australia also recently renewed its commitment to providing training support to the RAN.

The firm entered into a collaboration agreement with KBR to provide support to the RAN’s Navigation Faculty at the School of Navigation Warfare at Sydney’s HMAS Watson.

Serco Australia and KBR have created three administrative positions to alleviate the administrative burden on RAN instructing staff, enabling them to focus on the training of Maritime Warfare Officers.

The three positions, filled by KBR staff, embed the company's knowledge of naval training systems, and forms part of Serco’s contract with the RAN to deliver professional services at HMAS Watson.
