The technology, designed and developed in collaboration with local academics and SMEs, is set to be integrated into the US Navy’s Forces Surveillance Support Center, supporting operations to counter the illicit drug trade.  

The $18 million digital receiver system is designed to enable the integration of multiple images, ensuring the US Navy can accurately identify targets of interest across a range of up to 3,000 kilometres.

This is expected to curb the supply of illicit drugs into the US.

“Through collaboration with Defence, industry and academia, Australia leads the world in HF technologies,” BAE Systems chief executive Gabby Costigan said.

“Our commitment and investment to support the spiral development of these sovereign technologies enables us to develop valuable new opportunities to collaborate with allied nations and grow the nation’s exports.

“We have been collaborating with the US on High Frequency radar technologies for over a decade and we’re extremely proud to work on projects like MASOR which leverage our world class over the horizon radar capability and expertise to improve strategic surveillance capabilities in the US.”

The announcement of the export deal comes just a day after the company secured funding via the NSW government’s $250 million Jobs Plus Program to help expand its Williamtown base.

This includes the development of an additional set of regionally focused bays at the aircraft sustainment hub, used to support the management of an F-35 South Asia-Pacific Regional Depot.

These regional bays are tipped to increase export opportunities, attracting overseas aircraft and sustainment contracts from the region.
