The Hungarian Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract worth several hundred million euros to Rheinmetall for the supply of an extensive package of ammunition.

This is tipped to include:

  • three variants of 30mm x 173 ammunition;
  • 120mm tank ammunition;
  • 155mm artillery shells;
  • 40mm and 76mm decoy cartridges for the Rosy and Maske smoke/obscurant systems; and
  • 7mm and 7.62mm ammunition.

Rheinmetall is set to commence delivery in 2023, with project completion expected in 2031.

According to the company, the deal would support the modernisation of Hungary’s armed forces and enhance the NATO member’s defence posture.

“We are extremely honoured that Hungary has once again entrusted us with the task of modernising its military,” Rheinmetall chief executive Armin Papperger said.

“We’re delighted to be co-operating with our Hungarian friends in another key military capability.”
