The contract, which is to be carried out during the Collins Class full cycle dockings in Adelaide, is scheduled to last for six years and support over 100 Australian jobs.
Under the contract announced today by ASC, Eptec is scheduled to deliver blast services to clean components and systems within the Collins Class to ensure ongoing operational capability, while the painting will include anti-corrosion protection for the hulls and structures of the submarines.
It is hoped that paintwork will also improve the living conditions onboard the systems and enhance the living conditions for the Australian crews.
“Full cycle dockings are immense undertakings that include opening the hull, removing major systems for maintenance and adding new capability,” Stuart Whiley, chief executive officer of ASC said.
“It is critical work being done in Adelaide, with Australian suppliers, to support our national security.
“Strong local supply chains are important for ASC and the Collins program. Partnerships like this increase ease of access to services, while supporting Australia’s industrial resilience.
“The significant national security investments which are being made to grow Australia’s submarine capability are also creating hundreds of jobs, both at ASC and with suppliers.”
The Collins Class full cycle dockings, which is delivered in Adelaide, provides upgrades and maintenance to Collins Class submarines following a decade of service at sea – with shorter mid-cycle and intermediate dockings taking place in Henderson, Western Australia.
ASC confirmed that Eptec was selected following a competitive market activity, with the company also contracted to provide scaffolding, waste removal and spotting services.
Geoff Knox, chief executive officer of Eptec Group, explained that over 100 workers would take part in the docking services.
