A local firm has been contracted to oversee upgrades to military facilities across the Top End.

NT-based construction company Sitzler has been selected as the managing contractor for the $747 million project to upgrade the Robertson Barracks Close Training Area, Bradshaw Field Training Area, Kangaroo Flats Training Area, and Mount Bundey Training Area.
Sitzler will first manage upgrades to Robertson Barracks Close Training Area and Bradshaw Field Training Area, with all four upgrades scheduled to be completed by mid-2026.
The project is tipped to generate approximately 2,000 jobs in the region, with 65 sub-contractor packages to be made available for tender.
Sitzler has also committed to a target of 4 per cent for Indigenous business involvement under the Commonwealth’s Indigenous Participation Policy.
“This is a major win for small and local businesses across northern Australia, who will be given every opportunity to get involved in this vital Defence project,” Minister for Defence Industry Melissa Price said.
“Sitzler has a target of 98 per cent of the construction sub-contractor packages to businesses within northern Australia.
“This means the benefits from our investment will flow to small and medium businesses and, most importantly, support local jobs.”
The investment in upgrades across the Top End forms part of the US Force Posture Initiatives.
“This investment will enhance the levels of integration between the Australian Defence Force and our partners, including the United States Marine Corps,” Minister Price added.
“The project will also provide reliable access to suitable military training areas and weapons ranges to meet Australian Defence Force capability requirements.”
Senator for the Northern Territory Dr Sam McMahon noted the benefits for the local community.
“With the majority of the sub-contracting roles going to businesses in Northern Australia, this will be a tremendous boost to the Territory economy,” Senator McMahon said.
“This is another example of Defence investment providing valuable opportunities for local businesses.”
The $747 million upgrades in the Northern Territory form part of a broader $15.6 billion investment in Defence facilities and infrastructure across Australia over the next four years.
